It’s the holiday season! This is the time of year for get-togethers with family and friends. It’s also the time of year for good food and good drinks. Although I may have champagne taste and a beer budget, I do still appreciate a nice glass of wine now and then, as long as it falls into that beer budget-territory. I simply can’t justify spending more than $20 on a bottle of wine. But no matter what I spend, I want the wine I purchase to taste good–that’s a given!
Crimson & Clover is produced by Concannon Vineyard, a winery located in California. Concannon Conservancy wines are made with grapes grown in Livermore vineyards that are part of a conservation trust–this trust ensures that the land will continue to be used for domestic winemaking and will not be subject to suburban sprawl. The Conservancy collection includes Petite Sirah, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon in addition to Crimson & Clover, which is a blend of Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Zinfandel.
What makes Crimson & Clover so special is the fact that it’s truly a labor of love–it was created as a tribute to Jim Concannon, the father of America’s first Petite Sirah, by his son in honor of his 80th birthday. Crimson & Clover is a bold, fruity wine, with aromas of currant, clove, and vanilla. It has a spicy, soft finish with hints of leather and tobacco.
My husband and I enjoyed our bottle of Crimson & Clover wine over two meals. The first was a small tapas meal on a Saturday evening and the second was a Mushroom & Gruyere Quiche. We found that this wine worked well with both meals. While I’m terrible at picking up the subtle aromas and flavors of wines, the distinct flavor of blackberry really did shine through.
Having never had a wine blend before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I loved Crimson & Clover. It’s the perfect wine for those holiday get-togethers with family, from a vineyard that understands the importance of family. And right now, Concannon Vineyard has a sweepstakes where you can enter for a chance to win $20,000 to bring your family together for the reunion of a lifetime. Be sure to enter now–it’s ending on Saturday!

I’m going to have to check this wine out when I’m not pregnant. I, too, have a hard time spending more than $20 for a bottle of wine. And to be honest, most of the time it’s even under $15.

I used to never buy anything over $10! But since it’s not like we drink a bottle a night or anything, it doesn’t put a huge dent into our budget. π

I love red blends! The story behind this is really cool too… I have a pretty well known wine maker in my family and TONS of friends who love wine (I don’t trust those that don’t, hahaha) so I’ll definitely be asking them about this and grabbing a bottle. π

Lucky you–I want a wine maker in my family! I think my grandpa used to make wine out of dandelions and crab apples. Does that count? π
You should definitely try a bottle of this!

I’ll put this on my wines-to-try list. It sounds wonderful.
