When it comes to cooking and entertaining, my personal philosophy is this: if I’m making an elaborate meal, then I’m doing an easy dessert. And if I’m doing an elaborate dessert, then I’m making a simple meal. One person can only do so much, right? Still, even when you’re taking the easy route when it comes to dessert, you want something that tastes homemade, even if it’s not–especially during the holidays, which are all about home cooking and family traditions. If you’re looking for the perfect holiday dessert that lets you cut a few corners while still serving up the very best to your friends and family, you don’t have to look any further than your nearest Sweet Tomatoes.
Yes, it’s true, Sweet Tomatoes, best known for its fresh and unique buffet offerings, is selling take-and-bake desserts this holiday season. And not just any desserts–cobblers! Each cobbler requires only a little bit of assembly, some time in the oven, and that’s it–dessert is done. They even supply the container to bake it in if you like, although I opted to put mine in a glass baking dish to really make it look homemade. During December, Sweet Tomatoes is offering cobblers in the following flavors:
Caramel Apple
Cranberry Apple
Georgia Peach
Mixed Berry & Apple
Tart Cherry
Orchard Apple
Each cobbler serves 8-10 people. While the Orchard Apple cobbler is available for pick up anytime, the other varieties need to be ordered in advance, which you can do online or over the phone. In addition to the cobblers, Sweet Tomatoes has Smoked Turkey & Spinach Salad, Turkey Chutney, and Classic Sugar or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to go this month.
We had the chance to try the Autumn Pumpkin & Walnut Cobbler that was available in November for Thanksgiving. It required very little effort to prepare and it tasted like it was made from scratch. The flavor wasn’t too sweet or too cloying, as some pumpkin pies can be–it was perfectly balanced. After spending so much time making Thanksgiving dinner, it was nice to have an easy dessert–like I said, there’s no way I’m going to spend hours on a dessert when I’ve just spent hours making dinner!

Disclosure: I received a free cobbler from Sweet Tomatoes to facilitate this review, but all opinions are my own.

I’ve never eaten at Sweet Tomatoes, I should see if there’s one near me.

In some areas of the country, it’s called Souplantation. I really love their buffet because it has a lot of lighter options & it’s more like real food & not Jello that’s been sitting there for days & congealed meat. :/
